The basic repertoire of the Hannover International Violin Competition includes J.S. Bach's works for solo violin, a commissioned composition by Arvo Pärt and a selection of the great concertos for violin and orchestra. The Audience Academy at the 2003 competition is designed to provide a source of information and insight on these topics for the general public. The Academy Director is Dr. Markus Fein, musicologist and Artistic Director of the Summer Music Festival in Hitzacker, Lower Saxony.
Do you want to know how Bach came to write his works for solo violin, how today's composers challenge tomorrow's violin greats, or how the solo violin and the symphony orchestra have cooperated over the centuries? Then don't miss the Audience Academy. Experts will discuss the topics for and with the audience. Musical illustrations will add to the pleasure of preparing for the sessions of the competition itself. The only pre-requesite is your own curiosity.
