Following an impressive semi-final round, the jurys choice of competition finals was announced late this evening in Hannover:
- Fanny Clamagirand (France, born on April 12th, 1984)
- Nikita Borisoglebskiy (Russia, born on August 30th, 1985)
- Zhijiong Wang (PR China, born on August 18th, 1983)
- Suyoen Kim (Korea, born on November 12th, 1987)
- Hyun-Su Shin (Korea, born on July 16th, 1987)
- Kana Sugimura (Japan, born on May 25th, 1981)
They will be performing for the top awards at the finals at 8 p.m. on Thursday and Friday, accompanied by the NDR Radio Philharmonic Orchestra conducted by Christoph Poppen. For the first time, the finalists will also be vying for an Audience Award worth 1,000 Euros. The programs for the finals include concertos for violin and orchestra by Johannes Brahms, Jean Sibelius and Béla Bartók.
The remaining six semifinalists, each of whom will be granted a 1,000 Euro scholarship, will be giving one more concert for this years competition. On October 11th, the »Competition in the Countryside« series takes them to four cities around the state of Lower Saxony. In Celle, Osnabrueck and Wolfenbuettel the concerts begin at 8 p.m., while the curtain rises at 7 p.m. in Neuenkirchen. More information is available at www.violin-competition.de.
The Hannover International Violin Competition has been presented triennially since 1991 by the Foundation of Lower Saxony in cooperation with the University of Music and Drama Hannover, the Hannover State Opera of Lower Saxony and the Northern German Broadcasting Corporation. The Hannover International Violin Competition awards cash prizes of over 80,000 Euros. This makes it one of the worlds most generous competitions of its kind.
